Mr. Smith’s Of Georgetown

The happy hour at this historic bar has specials on select wine, rail drinks, and some food items. The history of the bar is actually pretty fascinating. From 1985 to 1994, before it became the bar we know today, this place was where a CIA agent secretly met with others to sell information to the enemy, making it a site of one of the biggest acts of betrayal in recent U.S. history.

The person behind this was Aldrich “Rick” Ames. He used to work for the CIA but turned into a spy for the KGB, Russia’s intelligence agency. He told them secrets about more than 100 CIA operations, which led to at least 10 American spies being discovered and killed. Ames was caught in 1994 and was sent to prison for life. If you’re curious, ask the folks at Mr. Smith’s to point out exactly where these secret spy meetings happened in the bar.

During happy hour you can enjoy drink specials as well as food specials. For specifics, check their website or give them a call.
